Chives
Botanically known as Allium schoenoprasum, it is an aromatic plant that belongs to the family of Liliaceae, the same as onion, garlic, leek and shallot. Like the other most commonly used variants, chives have a very special taste. Very rich in viatmine and minerals, if crumpled it exudes an oniony smell but more delicate. It is characterized by the presence of vitamins (especially C and B group) and minerals including calcium, magnesium and iron.
IN YOUR CUISINE: Excellent for preparing flavoured butters, it is also used to flavor dishes of all kinds, alone or in combination with other herbs. It can be used in salads, for example, or to flavour potatoes, cheese, eggs or other main courses.
